Is ISO 45001:2018 still in force?

Yes. It is the current, certifiable version and will remain so until the revision is published and its transition period ends.

It is a guidance standard —not certifiable— for managing psychosocial risks within an ISO 45001 system. In Mexico it complements NOM-035.

Do the three standards change at the same time?

Almost. ISO 14001:2026 was published in April 2026, ISO 9001:2026 has a September 2026 publication date and ISO 45001 is expected in 2027. An integrated system lets you plan the three transitions together.

The occupational health and safety standard is under revision. The draft international standard (DIS) went out for ballot in mid-2026 and publication is expected in the second half of 2027. That is no reason to pause a project: it is a reason to design it with what is coming in mind.

When will the new ISO 45001 be published?

The revision of ISO 45001:2018 is led by committee ISO/TC 283. The draft international standard (DIS) was released for ballot and comments in mid-June 2026, and certification bodies expect publication in the second half of 2027, with a likely three-year transition period. These are forecasts: dates may move depending on the ballot results.

Where the draft puts the emphasis

Mental health and psychosocial risks, in line with the ISO 45003 guidance.
New ways of working: hybrid and remote arrangements, and who is responsible for safety outside the workplace.
Climate-related risks: extreme heat, weather events and their effect on people (climate change was already added by the 2024 amendment).
Organizational resilience and preparedness for disruption.
Supply chain: more responsibility over contractors and suppliers.

Why plants in Mexico start ahead

Two of those topics are already legal obligations here. NOM-035-STPS-2018 requires identifying and preventing psychosocial risk factors, and NOM-037-STPS-2023 regulates health and safety conditions in telework. A Mexican operation that complies with both is ahead on what will be new elsewhere; it only needs to be linked to the management system.

Should we wait for the 2027 version to certify?

No. There will be years between publication and the end of the transition, ISO 45001:2018 certificates will remain valid during that period, and the customers asking for the certificate today will not wait. The sensible approach is to implement now with an eye on the draft.

Assess the risks of staff working remotely or in hybrid arrangements.
Check whether heat, flooding or other climate events affect your workers and your emergency plans.
Strengthen contractor control: safety criteria from purchasing and performance evaluation.
Keep your legal requirements register up to date: it is where changes show first.
