Most people do not lack grammar: theand theck conversation time with someone patient. Practicing English with AI solves exactly that, as long as the practice is spoken and not a text chat. This guide explains how to get the most out of a virtual English teacher with voice and avatar, what it can and cannot assess in two minutes, how it compares with apps and how to use it to place a whole team before hiring a program.

Why practice English with AI by speaking and not by text?

Speaking practice trains the skill that blocks most people: finding the word, pronouncing it and following the conversation without long pauses. Writing in English with a chatbot improves writing, but not that oral fluency, the skill least practiced in a group class and the one most noticed on a call with a customer.

An AI English teacher that listens and answers out loud forces oral production. If it also has an avatar that looks at you and moves its lips, the anxiety of speaking "into the air" drops and the sense of a real conversation rises. It is why Geedle's AI agents with avatar start with a language teacher.

What does a virtual English teacher do in a two-minute session?

Geedle's AI English teacher with avatar follows a mini lesson in three moments:

  1. It introduces itself and lets you talk. It greets you, asks your name and what you do, and follows your pace: short answers get more questions; longer ones get listened to.
  2. It corrects one thing at a time. It picks one error (verb tense, preposition, word order), rephrases it kindly and returns to the conversation with an open question that raises the level.
  3. It estimates your level and proposes the next step. At the end it gives your estimated level on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), from A1 to C1, and the business English course that fits.

Two minutes are free with no account; to continue up to ten minutes the agent asks for your name and email, and the session summary arrives by email. That rule keeps the demo available to everyone and is the same one we explain in try the AI voice agents with avatar for free.

How does an AI estimate the CEFR level and how accurate is it?

The AI compares what it hears with the CEFR speaking descriptors and gives an estimate that is useful to place someone in a group; it does not replace a full placement test or an official certification. The Common European Framework of Reference describes what a person can do at each level: at A2 you introduce yourself and talk about routines in simple sentences; at B1 you hold a conversation on familiar topics and narrate experiences; at B2 you argue fluently with nuance; at C1 you express yourself precisely in professional contexts. The virtual teacher assesses vocabulary, structures, fluency and the ability to react against those descriptors. A full placement test adds reading, writing and listening. In a corporate English program we use the estimate as the initial filter and then apply the placement exam.

Apps to practice English with AI or a virtual English teacher with avatar?

Both are useful, for different purposes: a speaking-practice app with AI is the best tool for each person's fifteen daily minutes; a virtual teacher with avatar fits when the company needs its own content, a common level criterion and reports per team. The criteria to decide are in this table:

CriterionAI practice appVirtual teacher with avatar (company)
Who defines the contentThe appYour company: job vocabulary, real situations
ResultPoints and streaks for the personEstimated level and summary for HR or training
FormatText and voice on the phoneVoice and face in the browser, also in the LMS
ScaleLicense per personSessions for the whole team with caps and reports
Follow-upUp to each personCredential or certificate when the program closes

In practice they combine: the app for fifteen daily minutes, and the virtual teacher to place levels, rehearse a specific situation (a call, a presentation) and measure progress with a common criterion.

How to use an AI English teacher to place a team

  • Before hiring a program. Send the virtual teacher's link to the whole team; in one afternoon you have a level estimate per person and can build homogeneous groups.
  • During the program. Between classes, each participant practices the unit with the agent, which receives the course vocabulary and situations as its source.
  • At the close. An exit session with the same criterion shows progress, and the level's verifiable badge is issued with Geedle Badges.

For customer service and sales teams, the same agent can play the customer in English and raise objections, just like the sales role-play.

How to get more out of practicing English with AI

With enough material to correct, your own topic and short, frequent practice. Specifically:

  • Speak in full sentences even if you make mistakes: the teacher corrects better with more material.
  • Ask it to repeat more slowly if you did not understand; it is designed to follow your pace.
  • Bring your own topic (your job, a trip, this week's meeting) instead of waiting to be asked.
  • Practice short and often: several brief sessions a week usually beat one long session a month.
  • Use it as a bridge: AI is a patient partner, not a substitute for talking with people; it helps you arrive confident at the real conversation.

AI voice agents for training: what they are, how they work and how they differ from a call center

Almost everything written about AI voice agents is about phone calls: answering the line, booking appointments, collecting payments. It is the most visible use, but not the only one and not the most valuable for a training team. A voice agent can also teach an English lesson, run an audit interview or play a difficult customer, with a face that lip-syncs in real time. This guide explains what a voice agent is, how it works inside and what changes when you use it to teach instead of to serve.

AI avatars for team training: how they work, what they cost and when they are worth it

AI avatars stopped being a pre-recorded video with a synthetic voice: today they converse in real time, with lips, gestures and gaze synchronized to what they say. Business schools and multinationals already use them to teach and to rehearse difficult conversations. This guide explains how conversational avatars work, in which training cases they add something voice alone does not, and how to decide whether your company needs one.

AI sales role-play: how to train objections with a virtual buyer

Objections are learned by hearing them, not by reading them. An AI sales role-play puts your salespeople in front of a virtual buyer who has no time, already has a supplier and doubts your price, and gives them unlimited attempts at the same uncomfortable conversation. This guide explains how an AI sales simulator works, which objections are worth training, how each attempt is scored and how to fit it into sales training without turning it into a game.
